Small is beautiful
Stay at the Landscape Høtel
Elegant nature, surprising architecture
A bold presence
of striking minimalism
Perched in the heights of the Alsatian village of Breitenbach, 48° Nord stands out against the landscape. This architectural piece of art was designed by the Norwegian architect Reiulf Ramstad. The Landscape Høtel is his reinterpretation of the traditional Scandinavian hytte. Its sleek lines and untreated wood create a natural yet striking juxtaposition between 48° Nord and the scenery.
Harmonious with nature
in design and construction
There are no cinder blocks, tiles, or classic gardens in sight but instead certified local wood, green roofs, and grassy meadows! Here, nature takes back its rights within the community. Each hytte is small, minimalistic, unobtrusive, and can even be disassembled - as they are built on piling, they simply sit upon the hillside. The Landscape Høtel was specifically designed to fit into a preserved setting without disturbing it.
Unquestionably responsible
and inherently ecological
48° Nord sits on a protected Natura 2000 site, thus its construction could not be anything but 100% environmentally-friendly. The main building conforms to Passivhaus standards, its native Alsatian outer wooden cladding worked in a reintegration workshop in Saverne. Each hytte has been built with bio-based materials sourced directly from Breitenbach's forests. All of the softwood lumber and natural insulation used on the site is certified. Each drop of rain is collected and treated through a reed bed filtration system.
We value and recycle nature's gifts as a way to better preserve it.
